Court bundle pain points

The court bundle pain points CaseFolio was built to solve.

Court bundle preparation should be structured. In practice, it often becomes slow, repetitive and stressful. CaseFolio was built to reduce that friction.

Preparing bundles should not be this difficult

The problem is rarely the legal work itself. The problem is the administrative work around the bundle. Documents need to be ordered, indexed, paginated, checked, amended and exported. Then a new document arrives, or a page needs to move, and much of the work has to be checked again.

CaseFolio was built to reduce that friction. It is free court bundle software for Windows that helps create organised PDF litigation bundles with automatic indexing, pagination and bookmarks.

Late changes can break the whole bundle

One of the most common problems with court bundles is that they are rarely final until the last moment. A witness statement may be replaced. A report may be added. A document may need to move from one section to another. A duplicate may be removed. Each small change can affect the index, page numbering and references throughout the bundle.

If the bundle is changed manually, the index may no longer match the pages. Bookmarks may point to the wrong place. The final PDF may look complete, but contain hidden inconsistencies.

How CaseFolio helps with late amendments

CaseFolio rebuilds the bundle structure together. When documents are reordered or sections are changed, the software can regenerate the index, pagination and PDF bookmarks. This means the bundle can be rebuilt as a coherent whole rather than patched manually document by document.

The aim is simple: late amendments should not mean hours of renumbering and checking.

Manual pagination is slow and error prone

Pagination is one of the most tedious parts of bundle preparation. Page numbers need to be clear, sequential and consistent. If documents are inserted or removed, the numbering has to be checked again.

Manual pagination also increases the risk of small mistakes. A skipped page, duplicated number or mismatch between the index and the PDF can make the bundle harder to use.

How CaseFolio helps with pagination

CaseFolio handles pagination as part of the export process. The software applies page numbering to the final bundle and keeps it aligned with the index. This is particularly useful where a bundle needs to be amended more than once before filing or service.

Bundle indexes take too long to update

A good court bundle index should help the reader find documents quickly. The difficulty is that indexes are often created manually. When the bundle changes, the index has to be updated again. Document titles, section headings and page numbers all need to match the final PDF.

CaseFolio creates a bundle index from the documents and sections in the project. The index is generated from the structure of the bundle rather than typed separately.

PDF bookmarks are useful but often neglected

PDF bookmarks make an electronic bundle much easier to navigate. They allow the reader to jump directly to a section or document from the side panel of a PDF viewer.

CaseFolio can generate bookmarks as part of the bundle build. The bookmarks follow the structure of the bundle, including sections and documents. When the bundle is rebuilt, the bookmarks can be rebuilt with it.

Cloud upload is not always appropriate

Legal documents can contain confidential, sensitive or privileged information. Many users are understandably cautious about uploading legal bundles to an online service, particularly where the documents include medical records, witness evidence, financial information or client material.

CaseFolio is a Windows desktop application designed so that bundle preparation can be carried out locally, without requiring documents to be uploaded to a CaseFolio server.
